"Ratatouille", rats and food... not so sure

There are to ways of look at "Ratatouille", the most recent animated film of the Disney/Pixar Studios. One of them, is to enjoy the amazing level that computer animation has achieved, the second one is to really conceive the idea that a rat could cook the most delicious dish that you have ever tasted.
Remy is a rat that has an exquisite sense of smell and taste, he enjoys watching cooking shows and wishes that he could access the forbidden kitchen area instead of the garbage cans. When he gets separated from his colony of rats, he ends up in Paris right underneath the famous restaurant "Gusteau's". Remy meets Linguini, a young man that has no clue about cooking and that works moping the floors and taking the garbage out. Between them an interesting relationship is created and Remy uses Linguini's body to create outstanding dishes.
Of course, I will not tell you what happens but I have to say that what I liked the most about the movie is how beautiful it looks, the rat's hairs are perfect. You can see how the onions' layers look, how the water boils while is cooking, and it all looks perfect.
The story is cute, nice and with the endless message of "follow your dreams", but I did have a problem mixing rats and food, I have to say that although the dishes might look great on screen I was not hungry at all once I came out of the theatre just imagining the fact that a rat's little paws were anywhere near the food. I guess I couldn't take the image out of head of that New York's "Taco Bell" infested in rats.
I am sure that families will enjoy "Ratatouille", it is a fun, very well made film, but I love food too much to imagine a rat near my pasta... no way!

I really feel "Sicko"

Watching Michael Moore's must recent documentary "Sicko" can only be compared to the annoying feeling that I get every single time I open my mail box and find just another medical bill.
I know my review could seem biased since I, myself, have been struggling with insurance companies for the past year after my surgery in August, 2006. But the documentary helped me realise that "things could always be worse", and although that could be a mediocre consolation it becomes the truth after watching stories of people that died because health insurance companies denied to pay for their treatment.
I also know that Michael Moore is not a director that everybody likes, but besides his peculiar way of making his voice be heard, I do believe that even people that do not like him will watch this documentary and understand that something is wrong with the way that US provides health care.
The documentary shows some dramatic stories from people like you or like me, that are just outrageously unbelievable, actually one of them from our own Kansas City. We also hear the other side of the story with health insurance employees saying that they get bonuses for the number of people that they deny services to, because that represents earnings for the company. After that Moore visits Canada, England, and France where health care is free, they even go to your house in the middle of the night and pay for your taxi fare in case you need it. In England doctors get bonuses for the number of people that they help getting healthy, if they quit smoking or if they loose weight, and they seem to do a pretty good way of living. However he never mentions how much they pay in taxes to get this services.
Moore's proposal is to have some sort of socialised medicine, and although the word "socialised" usually scares the hell out of Americans, the truth is that some of our services are already "socialised", and Moore mentions Fire Departments, Police Departments, Libraries and Post Offices. And I have to say that it does scare me to think that hospitals could be handle the same way as our Post Office is (no need to go into details, but I'm sure you all know). I assume that this idea will have pretty hard impact in how much we pay in taxes, but if the service we get is first class and free I am sure everybody will be more than willing to pay for it, must of us are already paying thousands for the services that we received.
Maybe socializing medicine is not the solution, but maybe there is another one that is sitting there waiting for our politicians to find. The truth of the matter is that what we have right now as health service is only benefiting the stockholders of the health insurance companies and not the people that are paying month after month to get a service that they sometimes do not provide.

3.2 Million... Are you kidding?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Larry King's one hour interview with Paris Hilton positioned CNN back on the number 1 slot in the ratings. 3.2 million people watched the interview where Paris lied, and lied, and lied.
She said that she read the Bible, but she doesn't have a favorite passage. She said that she has never ever tried or done drugs, but there a quite a few picture going around where we can actually see her do coke and pot. She said that she is a business woman, so if charging $150,000 to $300,000 to show up to a place is considered a business, well then she is.
She said that she is an actress... "House of Wax"????? No comments!
Any way she is out of jail and hopefully there will be a day soon when we do not have to hear what she is up to.

Live Free... Die Hard... Outstanding

I had the opportunity to watch the film last night and I have to say that regardless of the unbelievable action scenes that are just jaw dropping, the movie is fun, entertaining, well made and completely worth it.
Of course it gets to a point where you just have to relax and understand that John McClane might be invincible.
"Live Free, Die Hard" I am sure will become the action film of this summer. Go see it!

Jimmy Conrad with Emeril

On July 2nd we will be able to watch our own Jimmy Conrad from the Kansas City Wizards share the screen with popular chef Emeril Lagassi. Jimmy is such a cutie and the nicest guy that you can find. Can't wait to see him do a WHAM!

Cameron's purse

Cameron Diaz had a little incident in Peru where she was wearing a purse with a Chinese Communist red star and the words "Serve the People". This evoked some bad memories to Peruvians of the terrible guerilla movement.
She has apologized and I am sure that she will not be using that purse in the near future.

Michael Lombardi... Hot!

One of the hot fire fighters that are part of the cast of "Rescue Me" is Michael Lombardi, his character's name is Mike Silletti and it makes this show worth watching.

Ugly is the new cute

This is Elwood a Chinese Crested dog that won the title of World's ugliest dog of the year. And in case you are wondering... YES that is actually his tongue!

Paris is Out!

I have to say that as much as I don't like Paris Hilton, I am glad she is finally out of prison. I certainly hope that now we can talk about something else and that this has been a learning experience for her. Whatever comes next for her I am sure will be a positive thing (besides the money Larry King is paying her for her first interview).

Run to me!

You should know by now that I have a preference for guys wearing likra outfits and even more when you can see their packages. On this picture we have Britain's Craig Pickering (R) and Poland's Dariusz Kuc during the men's 100m event of the European Cup at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
